History of Chenille

In the 1890's, long before there was Canyon Group®, a pioneering woman sought to improve the familiar process of candlewicking, brought to America from her native England.  By simply fluffing the yarn on cut ends by hand, she could create a design.  This innovation spawned an industry.

In the 1930's, early automation moved this cottage crafting into factories, which hummed along busily until the United States entered World War II in 1941.  During wartime, most chenille factories were either sold or shuttered.  At the close of the war in 1945, men returned to their families, automation advanced further, and the majority of chenille factories were now making carpeting, enjoying the benefits of the post WW II housing boom.

One of the last creators of a dying craft. We are proud to be preserving the art of vintage chenille tufting.

Our Canyon Group chenille bathrobes have garnered a global reputation for being the warmest and fluffiest, adored not only by fans but also by celebrities. Our product range includes the traditional48-inch wrap and zip-front robes, kimono-wrap short robes, shower wraps, men's robes, and jackets all crafted from our own chenille fabric. What sets us apart from competitors is our unique production process. We start with backing fabric and yarn sourced from local suppliers in America. We then make the chenille fabric at our factory. The dyed and finished chenille fabric are skillfully sewn, and distinctive designs are tufted onto each finished robe. By operating from our central location, we are able to minimize shipping costs for our valued customers.

Yes, not all chenille is alike!

Unfortunately, many fabrics that are called chenille and are, infact, not. True chenille consists of a backing material and tufted with continual rows of fluffy yarn.

We offer Two types of Chenille

Our Super Plush chenille is very soft and thick with dense chenille "ribbing" and is perfect for cooler weather. Our Demi chenille is also soft but with a lighter weight with less dense "ribbing" and is ideal for warmer weather or for those customers who simply prefer a lighter weight robe.
