In the 1890's, long before there was Canyon Group®, a pioneering woman sought to improve the familiar process of candlewicking, brought to America from her native England. By simply fluffing the yarn on cut ends by hand, she could create a design. This innovation spawned an industry.
In the 1930's, early automation moved this cottage crafting into factories, which hummed along busily until the United States entered World War II in 1941. During wartime, most chenille factories were either sold or shuttered. At the close of the war in 1945, men returned to their families, automation advanced further, and the majority of chenille factories were now making carpeting, enjoying the benefits of the post WW II housing boom.
Canyon Group® is proud to be the only remaining facility in the United States dedicated not only to preserving the art of chenille manufacturing, but also to specializing in products featuring hand sewn, single needle, ornate traditional patterns, and whimsical, novelty overtuftings, which put "fun" back in "function!"
